Friction material is a material that uses friction. Sintered metal friction material is a material generated by sintering. Compared with non-sintered metal materials, it has stronger friction, better thermal conductivity, high strength, corrosion resistance, and longer life. It is the most widely used and widely used material in the modern friction material family. It is widely used in industrial machinery, railway vehicles, airplanes, automobiles and other industries, especially in the high-speed transmission and braking fields.

The main manufacturing process of the material is: preparing powder-ingredients-mixing-pressing and forming-sintering. That is the "pressing-sintering" method.

The current types of this material are:

1. According to the matrix, there are mainly iron-based and copper-based, followed by nickel-based and tungsten-based.

1) The matrix composition of copper-based sintered metal friction material is mainly copper, and Sn, Zn, Fe, Ni, P and other components are added to achieve alloying during the sintering process. Add silica, alumina, zirconia and other metal oxides and other metal carbides as friction components; add graphite, metal sulfides, fluorides, low-melting metals, etc. as lubricating components.

2) The main component of the iron-based sintered metal friction material is iron, and the friction component and lubrication component are similar to the copper-based sintered metal friction material, with good thermal stability. The disadvantage is that it has affinity with the friction partner and is prone to adhesion, friction factor fluctuation, abnormal wear, noise, etc.
