The function of the clutch friction plate
1. Transmission of rotational torque
The flywheel of the engine is the driving part of the clutch, and the driven disc with the friction plate and the driven hub are connected with the driven shaft by sliding splines. The compression spring presses the driven plate against the end face of the flywheel.
2. The engine torque is transmitted to the driven disk by the friction between the contact surface of the flywheel and the driven disk, and then transmitted to the driving wheel through a series of components in the driven shaft and the drive train. The greater the compression force of the compression spring, the greater the torque that the clutch can transmit.
